Welcome to Ditchling Camping! To ensure every guest enjoys the best possible experience in the South Downs, we ask that you follow these simple campsite guidelines. Our rules are designed to safeguard your relaxation and protect the local environment.
Arrival & Departure
- Check-in: The site is available from 4:00 PM on your day of arrival.
- Check-out: Please vacate your pitch by 4:00 PM on your departure day.
- Extensions: To extend your stay, please contact the Site Manager before 12:00 PM on your expected departure date.
- Late Arrivals: You may pitch your tent up until dusk. If arriving after 7:00 PM, please use a torch and be respectful of other campers.
- Reception: We operate an informal reception. For local information or assistance, please contact the Site Manager directly.
Pitching & Fire Safety
- Pitch Spacing: For fire safety, tents must be pitched at least 3 to 6 metres apart.
- Water Sources: Please locate your nearest water point upon arrival for use in case of fire.
- Windbreaks: One windbreak (maximum 6 poles) is permitted per pitch.
- Barbecues: Use only purpose-built BBQs that are raised off the ground. Disposable BBQs are strictly prohibited to protect the South Downs National Park.
Dog-Friendly Camping
We love hosting dogs! To keep our site safe for everyone:
- Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
- Please clean up after your pet immediately.
- Maximum of two dogs per group.
On-Site Safety & Conduct
- Speed Limit: A strict 5mph limit (walking pace) applies across the site to protect children at play.
- Noise Policy: Please keep noise levels low, particularly between 11:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
- Generators: Only allowed with prior management approval during specified times.
- Cleanliness: Please leave facilities as you found them. Report any stray tent pegs or litter to the manager to prevent hazards.
Protecting the South Downs Environment
- Wildlife: Please do not feed any local animals.
- Trees & Vegetation: Hanging items on trees (hammocks, washing lines, or swings) is prohibited. Den building and fireworks are also not allowed.
- Cycling: Enjoy the local bridleways and cycle routes, but please do not cycle on public footpaths. Always pass horses and pedestrians slowly and wide.
- Kites & Drones: Due to space and privacy, we do not allow drones, flag poles, or kite flying on-site.
Visitors & Safety
Night Safety: The site can be dark at night; please ensure you carry a torch to move around safely.
Guests: Please notify the Site Manager if you wish to have visitors join you on-site.
